Back to the Future

And I’m back, to my boring old life from one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Although highly unbelievable if I were to ever retell my encounters, the memorable moments were to forever stay in my mind. I never really found out what had happened to Gatsby, Tom and Daisy. However I knew the story, I have read it over 10 times since I got back. It was your classic novel filled with themes of ‘love’ and ‘money’, but behind the superficial characters and somewhat ‘strange’ plot, I fell in love with the setting and its surroundings of picturesque views, clean air and just this fantastic vibe full of energy.

Now, every time I eat I always look out for the giant circular foods, just hoping to relive what happened almost 90 years ago.

To the City - Part 2

So I decided to divide the day into two separate posts, just for the suspense. Anyway continuing on from the story, the fight continued, the three ‘fighters’ completely unaware that Nick, Jordan and myself were standing around, not sure what to say or do. I mean we were frustrated, but not enough to say anything. In the end, the three of us decided to go out ourselves, Jordan suggested we go to ‘speakeasy’. She said it was a fun place to go and socialize, maybe have a drink or two. I was a little hesitant at first, but then thought I might as well enjoy it while I’m here, no sense in being transported back to the 1920s without going to a speakeasy.I suddenly remembered it was Nick’s birthday! I reminded Jordan and she said she had already planned a little something for him. We quietly snuck out of the hotel room, not bothering to say goodbye, knowing they wouldn't even notice.

The bar was crowded, people everywhere, talking, dancing and drinking. I had never seen a bar quite like this, the girls were dressed in ‘flapper’ style, they all looked quite similar. Short bobbed hair and dark-coloured dresses with several tasseled layers.

The lighting was dim and the air filled with smoke, but the atmosphere was fun, people seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely. We took a small corner table and unexpectedly a waiter came out with a cake and the whole room sang happy birthday to Nick. It was great; Nick was so surprised he almost jumped out of his chair.

Finally the cake was cut, by then I was starving. I took a piece with the giant cherry with the thought of missing home, popped it into my mouth and BANG! Again purple dust swirled around, I was back in my chair in front of a plate of peas and bread.

To the City

Looking forward to today, I finally get to meet Gatsby. He’s all Daisy’s been talking about. We are all going to his house for lunch, then going out to the city to celebrate Nick’s birthday.

We arrived, Tom, Daisy and myself. Gatsby’s house was huge! It was located close to Nick’s overlooking the lake. I have never seen a home so big. The exterior was painted white, surrounded by giant pillars trying to support its massive structure. The doors and windows were handcrafted, covered with detailed carvings of a variety of images from lions to cheese. I even saw an apple…bitten. We all went inside and took a seat at the giant table; there were small snacks available such as salted peanuts and juice. Small talk started, it was a little awkward at first but then we all got more comfortable and began to laugh and joke with each other. Jordan cracked a joke too funny not to share, but I forgot.

I also couldn't help but notice that Daisy and Gatsby were being more then friendly.

The day went by and we all arrived at the Plaza Hotel, it was obvious now that Daisy and Gatsby were having some sort of affair. The whole time they talked to each other, nobody else. While this was happening Tom was also showing signs of jealously, he kept glancing over to the ‘couple’ and staring for about five minutes each time. Daisy and Gatsby were too focused on each other to care.

Then when we got to the hotel room, Tom snapped. He asked what Gatsby was trying to do to his family, was he trying to create trouble? Daisy defended him and a bunch of arguments about who loved who went back and forth. It was all useless to be honest, none of what they said seemed to solve anything.

Tea Party

Just having a tea party with my new best friends, Daisy and Jordan. The other day, I appeared in their lounge room, they were surprised but at the same time completely welcoming, offering me to join them for lunch. Because I didn't have anywhere to stay, Daisy insisted that I stay with her family for the time I’m here.

Back in Time

Notice the date? Oh yeah, last night I was quietly eating a dinner of peas and bread and then I saw the fattest pea, the size of an eye, pierced it with my fork and stuck it into my mouth. Then suddenly clouds of purple dust swirled around me, engulfed me in and bang! I was transported back into the 1920s almost 90 years back in time. I landed right in the middle of a beautiful lounge room, French windows on either side, draped with milky white curtains and the view outside was amazing, vast verdant grass valleys set behind a deep blue lake. There were four people, 2 females and 2 males having a small conversation, possibly about eggs? And then I heard the word ‘Gatsby’, and immediately knew; I had been transported into the world of ‘The Great Gatsby’.
